Mood Board
Because the play ridicules Victorian etiquette and manners, I wanted to incorporate elements of design from that period. I liked the color palettes and the relationship between color and black in these Victorian stylized paint labels. I was also influenced by a couple book designs and the way that they incorporated physical pieces of paper into their designs, including The Flame Alphabet and Instructions For a Funeral.
Sketches and Ideation
Here are some of the sketches that I made while trying to create a concept for the design.
After coming up with the name tag concept, I made more sketches and refined my idea digitally. I knew that I wanted the final design to be made with paper cut outs and photographed. so I focused on developing the shapes, composition, and hierarchy.
